President Donald Trump promoted the American economy to global political and business leaders Friday — while trying to reassure them about his nationalist rhetoric.
“When the United States grows, so does the world,” he is set to say, according to excerpts of the speech to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Trump is expected to promote what he deems his accomplishments to make the U.S. economy stronger and more hospitable for foreign businesses looking to invest.
Among other topics, Trump is expected to say his administration will not tolerate intellectual property theft and trade abuses.
The global political leaders and business executives at the forum were watching Trump’s remarks closely. Trump has repeatedly bashed American trade agreements and pledged more isolationism than his predecessors, putting him out of place at an event largely devoted to global cooperation.
