An Indiana State Police officer is expected to survive after being shot in the head Tuesday night while trying to apprehend a suspect, reports said.
The unnamed officer of the Sellersburg District, according to a tweet from an ISP information officer, was brought to the University of Louisville Hospital following the shooting, during which he was said to be skimmed by the bullet, Fox 59 said. He was reportedly awake and aware during the trip and is expected to survive, authorities said.

The altercation, which happened in Jefferson around 7 p.m., began as a chase and ended with the shooting, according to Fox 59. The trooper reportedly shot back and hit the suspect, who was also taken to the hospital, WAVE 3 said.
Police in Jefferson said they have also responded to another scene related to the officer shooting, according to the outlet.
