Early Friday the Catalan parliament voted in favor to declare the region’s independence from Spain in a move that will inevitably increase tensions with Spain. Catalonians on the streets of Barcelona erupted in celebration upon hearing the news .
The Spanish senate is preparing to vote on a motion to enact Article 155 of the constitution that would dissolve the region’s parliament in an effort to keep Catalonia under Spanish rule.
