China reported May trade data on Thursday with exports up 15.5 percent, imports up 22.1 percent for a trade balance of CNY 281.6 billion in Chinese yuan terms, while in dollar terms the surplus widened to $40.81 billion and exports rose 8.7 percent and imports gained 14.8 percent.

A poll of analysts by Reuters saw exports up 7.0 percent, imports up 8.5 percent for a trade balance surplus of $46.32 billion, up from $38.05 billion reported in April.
