President Trump on Thursday said he did not ask former FBI Director James Comey to back down on investigating former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.
“No. No. Next question,” he said at a White House press conference, in response to reports that Comey wrote a memo alleging that he did.
Trump also said he respected Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s decision to appoint Robert Mueller as a special counsel investigating Russia’s interference in the election and any collusion between Moscow and his campaign.
“I respect the move but the entire thing has been a witch hunt,” he said. “There has been on collusion.”
“Even my enemies have said, ‘there is no collusion,’” he added.
Trump said the issue has been dividing the country, and that he wants to focus on running the country.
“I think we have a very divided country. We want to bring this country of ours together,” he said.
